Mystery port on ‘Rock Band 2′
You know the supposed Guitar Hero: World Tour keyboard that never materialized? If you were really looking forward to that, get ready to have your hopes dashed on another mystery instrument that will probably also never come to be. According to Harmonix, that extra port on the back of the updated drum kit — which previously was said to be for a second kicker — is actually for something that’s totally not a second kicker. What exactly will fill that port, though, the company isn’t saying. Speculation is rife about another nebulous keyboard peripheral, but if you ask us our money’s on a high hat, or maybe that other fundamental aspect of the drumming experience yet to be captured in the silly plastic instrument game genre: the triangle.
New Nintendo DS coming at this year’s E3?
According to reports (translated, possibly misunderstood, clearly speculative reports), come this year’s E3, Nintendo could be rolling out a brand-spanking-new DS — most likely very unlike the one pictured above. If you follow the text in a Bloomberg Japan article, Famicom magazine publisher Hirokazu Hamamura says that the timing of E3 would fall right in line with the two-year stagger the Big N has applied to other handheld releases. Of course, Nintendo is saying “no comment,” though we find that’s usually the last thing they say before introducing the Wii, Game Boy, N64, Harry Potter Wand, or Ultimate Doomsday Device.
Pandora dev board seen running applications, games
So much for the naysayers, huh? Although the hotly-anticipated Pandora is still doing its thang without a case in the most recent videos, the dev board is definitely handling the FinalBurn Alpha arcade emulator and MPlayer video viewer with ease. Rock Band wireless guitar for Wii hits the FCC
The wireless Rock Band guitar’s in the FCC (again), this time supposedly for the Wii. Oddly, the images depict it running on a PS3 (which we’ve already seen). Bring it on, Harmonix, it’s hella difficult to do power slides when plugged in via USB.
ASUS’ G35 series motherboards natively support DirectX 10
Integrated graphics sets that handle DirectX 10 like it’s their job are a dime a dozen, but ASUS has nevertheless managed to find bragging rights in its G35 series of mobos. Hailed as the “world’s first Intel platform” with onboard graphics capable of supporting DirectX 10 natively, the aforesaid motherboards won’t require a separate GPU in order to handle the simplest of DX10 demands. Of course, we wouldn’t expect the GMA X3500 to run circles around Crysis frame rate tests, but we suppose they’ll do for the casual fans in attendance. Per usual, ASUS has left us high and dry in regard to pricing, but the trio of boards should be available as we speak.
Metal Gear Solid 4 gets its own Bluetooth headset
First the console, now a Bluetooth headset — what’s next, Metal Gear Solid 4-branded bed linens? All kidding aside, the MGS4 headset that had been making the rounds of late is apparently very real. Slated to arrive on June 12th alongside the highly-anticipated title itself, the $59.99 unit will offer up 8-hours of talk time (160-hours in standby) and will function just fine with any other PS3 games that support online voice communication. Yeah, you can also pair this with your cellphone and use it in public, but we can’t say we’d recommend all that.
Super Genintari project is finished and ready to make you envious
DIY game consoles are hardly the rare occurrence they once were, but this so-called Super Genintari project (previously known as Leviticus) is definitely a step above most, and more than enough to make us a little green with envy. As you may be able to discern from the project’s name, this behemoth of a console brings the Atari 2600, NES, SNES and Genesis together at long last, with each system available at the push of a clickety-clackety button and ample controller ports provided for each. What’s more, while there’s quite the mess coming out of the front of the console with all the controllers attached, the rig does at least neatly connect to a TV with a single AV cable. PS3 firmware v2.30 is out: new PS Store and DTS-HD MA now yours for the taking
It’s April 15th which means one thing: taxes PS3 firmware 2.30 is due. Right on cue, Sony made good on the new PlayStation Store and DTS-HD Master Audio sound reproduction sure to make audiophile-types lean in for a listen. The Store is acting a bit sluggish at the moment, something that’s likely to get sorted once the rolling update is completed. Nevertheless, users are claiming easier navigation and richer experience. So whatcha looking at — get out of here kid, there’s on-line updating to be done.
